Andrew McKinnon is the warm and sunny Legend of the Surf who is loved and known by many in the Gold Coast community for so many great reasons. Some may know Andrew as the first official ISA Longboarding World Champion, others for his passionate conservation work leading the GC World Surf Reserve and Global Wave Conference 2020, his involvement in the Gold Coast Surf Museum, and some may know him fondly as Andy Mac, the surf reporter from local radio. Andrew has a heart of gold and benevolent spirit who seeks to care for our community interests and environment. Even now, at 67 years old having survived a serious heart attack last year, Andrew is enrolled at Griffith University in the Batchelor of Arts Social Science Honours program studying as an academic researcher to further explore surfing sub-culture and its impact on surf amenity and how best to protect the surfing environment for future generations.
