This pyrographic version of PT’s “Soul Arch" is a homage to the
late Marty Tullemans' stunning photograph taken of Peter
Townend and adapted with permission of Gail Austin who owns
this image. The soul arch photo of Peter Townend was taken in
Jan 1976 from Big Groyne Kirra looking directly into a Coolangatta
Peak by Martin Tullemans who was perched on the rocks giving
the impression it was captured from the water. It is arguably one
of Marty's most iconic shots that was shown at the recent Surfing
Hall of Fame Awards where Marty picked up a posthumous award
for the Peter Troy Surf Culture award. Peter Townend was
originally known as the Coolangatta Kid and then went on to be
the first ever World Professional champion in the same year.
